Specie: Decopodrackian, this is commonly shortened to decko.
Age: 54, not very young, but not old either by his kinds point of view.
Length: 30 feet.
Height when reared up: between 6 and 7 feet.
Gender: hermaphrodite (Often thought of as being male as his translation device has a masculine voice.)

Background: Alk comes from a sentient specie that also has a hive mentality. Alk was born specifically for the purpose of protecting important figures in his society. At some point or another do to trouble on his home world or simply a personal decision he up and left and has yet to give a reason as to why he hasn't been to his own world in about 14 years. He dose look forward to returning to his planet for his copulation ceremony when he achieves a position of great power and importance. In Alk's mind this would be running the security at South Ophiuchus from top to bottom. He is currently employed their as a some what important security officer and has quite a few people below him, he refers to them as drones.

Decko Society: All Deckos have the capacity for free thought, but their hive instincts almost always over power any sort of free thinking they might other wise do. The drone types nearly mindlessly obey orders of the more important members of their society such as powerful military and government leaders and great scientists. These great and powerful types are entirely free from any sort of hive-mind thinking as they have all gone through their copulation ceremony. In order to be able to go through this ceremony a decko has to prove that they are a major contributor of something or other to society. Of course they couldn't do this if they can't think freely to begin with. There is a catch. Two variety of decko exist with the important types, they are the genderless near totally mindless drone types and then there are the hermaphrodite not nearly as mindless guard types. Only a guard type can become an important type.
Guard types, such as Alk, have set-in-stone instincts only at crucial moments, like the endangerment of an alien ambassador or something. In these cases they loose all self preservation and simply act defensively and with little actual thought. They often won't even remember exact details of what happened. Guard types are not helplessly obedient like drone types so long as a situation is not a threat to an important persons life. They will question and bicker with leaders at relaxed moments, but they do this less as a situation grows more dangerous. When things are calm and mundane though, their minds are free to wander. If they show promise of being skilled at something valuable then they are sent to any areas free of possible conflict that could distract them. They often then mentor under someone who posses that skill or something similar already. Most simply stay as guardians though. Eventually when they have proven to be beneficial enough to society they are given the decision of whether or not to under go the copulation ceremony.

The Copulation Ceremony( AKA, the almost artificial insemination ceremony.)
Back when pointy sticks were the big new thing there was a particular way new decko hives could form. It quite simply involved a pair of hermaphrodite guard types leading a group of drone types to a new hive site. When it was found the drones would begin construction and the two guards would get funky off in the trees somewhere. During sexual intercourse glands with in the decko's body are stimulated causing a new stage of development to begin. One will become male and the other female and they will begin to grow in size. The male will become impregnated from the first copulation and give birth to the first batch of guard types for the hive. He stops growing soon after the giving birth at around 60 feet in length and then becomes the queens guardian and mate for hundreds of years. As for the queen, lengths of up to 150 feet have been reported. They are very long and thin creatures as to much bulk is a major inconvenience in the canopies they once lived in. Most of this length is simply space for elongated ovaries. All ten limbs migrate to the front of the body so they slither to move.
Back on topic; it was discovered that if copulation occurs but no pregnancy followed that a guard type would still grow to about 45 feet and gain complete free though at all times, but would remain as hermaphrodites. This was quickly found to be extremely beneficial.

Personality: Alk is generally confident in his abilities, if not overly so at times, and optimistic. He is quite capable of acting contented even if he is really pissed off at the time. He is generally friendly and hospitable and tends to get over things quickly. This sunny dispassion of his is the result of working with the general public and a sedateness in non combat situations which on his home planet was welcome as it meant a lot less blood in the streets when extraterrestrial beings began to show up. It took years of conditioning to prevent alien races from being attacked on sight.
In spite of his general kindness he is ridiculously devoted to his job. He will never do anything against the rules and regulations stated in the thousand or so page manual which he memorized. If he notices anybody acting outside of the laws and regulations he will act no matter what is said to him. If a person prosiest at some sort of unlawful action no matter how mundane he will manage to convince himself that their somehow a conspirator which causes his defensive instincts to flare up resulting in death most of the time unless an intervention occurs. Just because he's not on the station doesn't mean the rules don't apply because the whole shindig is being funded by the same people he works for. Some of the laws are entirely ridiculous and a few were actually put in place to see how devoted he was to his job. This resulted in the death of some poor soul who happened to purchase a coffee immediately after eating a crumpet. That law is still in place actually.

Combat: Alk has the ability to scale just about any surface while having four limbs free to utilize. This allows him to attack from almost any angle and be quite sneaky at times. He is not remarkably fast and has issues with turning and jumping leaving him relatively easy to out maneuver. He is particularly vulnerable in mêlée combat because of this, though he dose have an extraordinarily flexible spine that somewhat compensates. Alk is slightly stronger than the average human, but not by very much. He also has a long and powerful prehensile tale that is capable of lifting 100 pounds easily and could knock a group of people of their feet in one swing.
Alk prefers ranged combat and carries four good quality machine pistols. These are equipped with ammo regenerating clips, but it takes time for them to restock, about 45 seconds which is a lost slower then the guns fire. He is entirely capable of using all four at once, but since doing this would quickly leave him with no ammo he uses only two at a time. When one pair is spent he switches to the other, there is no need to manually reload them. Each pistol holds 40 rounds and they have a fire rate of, well, really fast. Alk's ability to rotate his upper body 360 degrees with ought turning his lower body makes up for his slow turning. He will happily hand out one of his guns since there freebies so long as he holds his current position.

Random Shiz: He is physically incapable of speaking English or similar languages and so relies on a communicator that resembles a broach. If need be this can be set to translate into any language, but that dose not mean Alk will understand a response he receives.

Decko's are employed as cheap labor across the galaxy do to their obedience and ability to go places most others can't easily. As result are quite common and somewhat loathed by minimal wage workers as Deckos are a very desirable race for employment in low paying easily accessible jobs.

Deckos only where clothing on their upper bodies because that is where their genitalia is located, just below the ribs. This is also where they excrete from. Some opt to where what looks like a one cupped bra that is there equivalent of undergarments, they only do it because a lot of other races have double layers of clothing over their genitalia. Alk doesn't wear one because he thinks they look stupid.
